Shoes are a girl's best friend

Shoes… I know they say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but I honestly think shoes should get the honours of being our best friends.  They just round of an outfit so beautifully, changes your posture, lifts your mood and honestly can simply brighten your day when you find that one stunning pair of shoes on a SALE.  When you choose your wedding shoes there are a few things to consider though, so we thought we would see if we can’t give you some guidance while being forced to look at pretty shoes :-)

Wedding favours for men

To be the maid of honour is exactly that, such a big honour.  It can also be a scary job as the you want to make sure that your friend has the best time of her life.  To host a bachelorette can be quiet challenging as it has to be fun and different.

Personalising your wedding favours

Personalising your wedding favours just adds that extra special touch that adds to your decor and makes a gift feel so much more special to your wedding guests.  We always have a note to say you should contact us for personalisation, today we want to explain your options a bit better to you.

We have an inhouse designer who designs the most beautiful thank you tags, we have a few templates on the site already which you can choose from.  We update the templates with your name and date and then we will send the artwork to you for approval.  Once you give us the go ahead we send the tags to the printers and have them cut for you.  When you receive your wedding favours we will send the personalised thank you tags together with a small plastic loop to allow for easy attaching of the tags.

We also offer engraving on some of our wedding favours.  You can send us the personalised message that you want engraved, we will then design the artwork and send it to you for approval.  Once this is done the favours are simply engraved and sent to you.  This process takes about two weeks from start to finish.  The costs involved include R180 for the artwork set up and then R6 per item for the engraving.  The engraving is of an exceptional quality and will definitely add a nostalgic element to your wedding favours. Examples of items that can be engraved for you are:
Classic Bottle opener keyring
Hip Flask keyring
Happy Hearts Smiley keyring
Charming Keyring bag charm
Power bank wedding favours

You can also let us know if you want to change the colour of the ribbon on your wedding favours.  This option is available at R6 per gift. Simply let us know what your wedding colours are, then we will send you the ribbon in that colour.  This is a personalisation option, you can get your family together and ask them to help you quickly change the ribbons.

Please note that we have a minimum order quantity of atleast 30 for any personalisation

We hope this article helped to clear up some of your questions on personalisation.  If there is anything we missed, please let us know.

Until next time, happy planning.

Do it yourself wedding ideas

Weddings are expensive and it helps to save money where ever possible. Here are a few Do it yourself (DIY) ideas that might make things cheap without compromising on your dream wedding.

If you are a foodie and just can't resist a delicious creamy cheese with a fig preserve after dinner, a cheese stacked wedding cake may just be the perfect cake for you.  These cakes are also very easy to make and will cost a fraction of the cost of a designer wedding cake.  Refer to our step by step guide on making your own cheese stacked wedding cake.

Then there is your bouquet.  Why not ask your mother or a creative friend if they would make your bouquet for you.  It would a beautiful reminder later and you will sentimentally think of your beautiful and unique flower bouquet.  There are so many options and it truly is not difficult.  A bunch of arum lilies surrounded with red roses can quickly be tied together with a rubber band.  Then simply wrap  a green silk ribbon around the stem to finish off the bouquet.

The options you have to do your wedding favours yourself are endless.  You can buy a small cactus plant and plant it in a pail or glass votive.  The "pot" you choose simply depends on your wedding theme, whether you are going for a clean and crisp feel or perhaps rustic, these wedding favours will fit in with your wedding seamlessly.

Let us know if these steps helped you or if you did something yourself at your wedding that really made it more special or saved you money.

Until next time :-)

Make your own cheese stacked wedding cake

To make a stacked cheese wedding cake is very easy and it is also something different that your guests will enjoy.

First sit down and decide what cheese you would like to use for your cake. A creamy Gouda wheel is always a winner from children right through to the pickiest foodie.  The other favourites to choose from includes, Cheddar, Brie, Camembert, Cream Cheese and Gorgonzola.  A good guide on deciding how much cheese to buy would be to work on about 100g per person.  To get the traditional wedding cake feel get at least five types of cheeses.  Once you know which cheese you are serving the accompaniments can be selected.

Here are a few accompaniments that goes well with different cheeses:
Brie with grapes
Camembert with preserved figs
Gorgonzola with fresh pear slices
Cheddar with a quince paste

The most important part is to find delicious cheese that you can use.  The Gourmet Cheese Cafe in Linden sells arguably the best Gorgonzola in Johannesburg.  We are highlighting it because it is our favourite, but all their other cheese are also amazing.  Then there is Van Gaalen cheese farm near Hartbeespoort who also supply cheese wheels that are made on the farm itself.

Now to stack the cheese, place the cheese on top of each other with circles of grease proof paper to place in-between each wheel of cheese.  Your cake can be arranged according to your style of wedding. If you are having a rustic wedding then wooden boards as rustic base, if it is more formal stack the cheese on top of each other and decorate with a few of the accompaniments as well as similar flowers used in the decor and some ribbon or organza.  Finish your cake off with a delicious sour dough bread and some crackers.

Send us photos of your creations, we would love to see how the cakes came out.

Last minute wedding to do list

A to do list must be one of the easiest ways to make sure you remember everything and let's be honest, bride brain is a real thing ;-)

We have compiled a list of things that you should remember to do before your wedding. So let's start:

1. Make a Mani and Pedi appointment for the day before your wedding
2. Make sure your wedding dress, shoes, perfume, jewelry, garter and hair accessories are neatly packed together
3. It may be a good idea to break in your shoes
4. An emergency kit for on the day will safe you from all kinds of head aches, pack the following in a bag and also put it with your dress:

-Head ache pills
-Chalk (great to hide marks in case you spill something on your dress)
-A needle, white thread, safety pins and perhaps extra buttons
-Hand sanitizer
-Mouth wash/tic tacs/chappies
-Extra earring butterflies
-Nail file
-Hair spray
-Lip stick
-Extra pair of shoes in case a heel gives in

5. Confirm with your hair dresser,make-up artist and photographer that they know where the venue is and what time they need to be there
6. Ask family members and friends to help with small details, e.g. putting wedding favours on the tables, make sure the place cards are correctly placed, flower arrangements and the ring barer has the rings are etc.
7. Have something warm in case the evening gets chili
8. Pack for your honeymoon
9. Get a good night's rest the night before

We hope this list will help, please let us know how it went and if you can think of anything else we should put on the list to help future brides.
